Many of the diseases are the consequences of free radical damage. The free radicals are nullified by the antioxidants like ascorbic acid, riboflavin, tocopherol, chlorophyll, total carotenoids and flavonoids. The results of this investigation suggest that the enzymic antioxidants that might have been present in the fresh herbs used in this formulation are lost during the preparation of the herbal powder in the dry form. It contains only a little amount of the non-enzymic antioxidants.
In vitro inhibition of lipid peroxidation :
Recently, free radical induced lipid peroxidation has been reported to be associated with various deleterious effects including tissue damage and necrosis. The effect of various extracts of Ashshifa-1000 on lipid peroxidation was studied. The results obtained are presented in Table -V.

of lipid peroxidation (LPO) was noted in the ethanol and methanol extracts
and the least extent of inhibition was observed in the chloroform extract.
The inhibition of in vitro LPO can be attributed to the presence of antioxidants
like ascorbic acid, riboflavin, tocopherol and flavonoids.
This study reveals that the maximum inhibition of LPO by the methanol and alcoholic extracts might be due to the tocopherol and flavonoid contents.
